Q.  What are your trainers qualifications?

A.  Our trainers are educated child care professionals who have years of hands on experience in all phases of the childcare industry and in every endorsement.  Our trainer’s resumes include degrees in child development and child psychology.

Each trainer is registered in the states in which they teach

Many of our CDA instructors also teach Child Development Classes at the college level.  Our trainers attend yearly training sessions so that you can be assured that you and your staff are receiving the most up to date information and techniques.

Q.  I live in Texas and my flyer says I can get ALL of my training in only 3 hours.  How does that work?

A.  You will get a certificate for 3 hours of training at the seminar.  At the end of the seminar you will receive a take home packet, in your specific field (Infant/Toddler, Pre-school or Management) with additional self instructional hours of training.  These are trainings that you complete when you need them.  (This year or next year- or the next.)

Q.  What is a CDA?

A.  A Child Development Associate (CDA) is someone who has successfully completed the CDA assessment process and has been awarded the CDA Credential. You will be able to meet the specific needs of children and work with parents and other adults to nurture children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth in a child development framework.

Q.  Why should I bother getting one?

A.  A CDA is a national credential which means that you can take it with you when you move from state to state.  In many states teachers must have credentials to work with young children.  Government programs such as head start require such credentials.  A CDA is one avenue towards becoming the Director of a child care or licensed home facility and in many states it is required to be credentialed or have a college degree to become a certified trainer.

Q.   How long does a CDA class take to complete?

A.  If you attend a live class the class usually takes about 7 weeks to complete.  If you choose the online version of the class you can access the information at your own pace in the comfort of your own home.  It can be completed in just a few weeks or you can take up to a year to complete the course if you need to.

Q.  Who can enroll in a CDA class?

A.  Anyone who meets the following requirements:  You need to be 18 years or older, have a High School Diploma or equivalent.  You must also have a minimum of one (1) year experience in a child care setting.  If you do not have 1 year of experience you must take the extended version of this class found at your local college.

Q.  Will I need to purchase a textbook to take the CDA class?

A.  If you are taking the online CDA class the answer is YES.  Once you enroll in the class we will send you the information on where you can purchase or find the textbook.  You have many options such as checking this book out from the public library or purchasing the book used or new from us or other online sources.  If you are taking the live version of this class your instructor will furnish you with all the reading materials you need.

Q.  What is a resource file?

A.  A resource file for CDA is just a list of 17 items that the student needs to collect and place in one location, before they test with THE COUNCIL.  Don't worry; we help you do that in our class.

Q.  What is a competency paper?

A.  A competency paper is a one page paper that the CDA student writes to let THE COUNCIL know that they are a competent teacher.  Don't worry; we help you write this paper in our class.

Q.  What if I work with one age group but want to get my CDA in a different age group?

A.  You can do that, no problem.

Q.  When I am done with this course I will have my CDA, right?

A.  No.  No matter where you take your CDA class, you still have to take and pass a test with the National CDA Council.  After you complete your CDA course with us you will receive a certificate for 120 hours of CDA training.  This certificate tells the world that you are educated in all areas of child care, but, you still have to take a test with The Council to get your official CDA.  Don't worry, we prepare you for this test and when you are ready, a person from The Council will meet you at your center or the public library to administer the test to you.

Q.  Is there a cost to take the test with The Council and how long do I have to save up for it?

A.  Yes there is a cost to take your test with The Council.  They have a testing fee of $325.00.  This is NOT a fee you have to pay right away, our certificate is good for 5 years, so you will have 5 years to save up to take your test with The council.

Q.  Are there grants to help pay for the cost of the test with The Council.

A.  Yes.  Updated monthly, on The Council website:  www.cdacouncil.org you will be able to find a list grants, you can also search your state for other non-profits that may help with the cost.
